Cat Articles

Cats can be mischievous little creatures. And so the occasional bump and bruise may be expected. With the appropriate remedies, tools and equipment, you can be prepared to treat minor injuries. Assemble the following basic supplies into a feline first aid kit, and keep it somewhere you can access it in a hurry.

  • Tweezers (preferably sharp pointed)
  • Rectal thermometer (digital is preferred)
  • Small scissors (preferably with blunt ends)
  • Sterile gauze pads, rolled sterile gauze, white surgical tape
  • Cotton balls and a roll of cotton padding
  • Hydrogen Peroxide (for cleaning out wounds)
  • Sterile eyewash solution (the human variety is fine)
  • Antiseptic cleaner (such as Bactine)
  • Triple antibiotic ointment
  • Hydrocortisone ointment (for insect stings)
  • Eye droppers
  • Ear syringe (two ounce capacity)
  • GREENIES® PILL POCKETS® treats (to make giving pills easier)
  • Blanket
  • Muzzle
  • Ziplock bags

Be sure to also include the following information in your kit:

  • Your vet’s phone number and clinic hours
  • Emergency animal hospital phone number
  • Poison control hotline
  • Your name, address, phone number and names of family members
  • You cat's health record and medications

Be sure to consult your veterinarian before any treatment.
